 DRAGLINE


The Dragline was first invented by John W Page in 1904 for digging chicago canal.




WHAT IS DRAGLINE ?

  • It is a machine used to transport material by using a wirerope with a suspende bucket from blasting mock to dumping point.

  • It eliminate loading, hauling and transporting material from one point to another in surface excavation.
  • It normally deployed for side-casting the material.
  • Dragline falls in heavy equipment category. Dragline are used in civil engineering projects and surface mining.
  • Dragline can dig deep into the earth.
  • The drag word is used because it can drag material present far from the machine.
  • The Dragline consists of a hoist rope, large bucket, drag rope, driving motor, boom.


USES OF DRAGLINE

  1. Road excavation
  2. Deep down excavation
  3. Under water excavation
  4. Surface mining
  5. Construction of port, harbour, etc
TYPES OF DRAGLINE
  1. Wheel mounted dragline
  2. Crawler mounted dragline
  3. Truck mounted / portable dragline
  4. Walking dragline -  Nowadays this is not considered.
